Rumble, rumble, rumble….

So I've been trying to find ways to boost my carb intake as my mileage increases toward the Portland Marathon on Oct. 7.

I thought I found a good way – Clif bars and PowerBar Harvest bars. They have a good level of complex carbohydrates, not much fat – and they don't give me a sugar headache.

Better yet, they taste great. They do down easy.

Well, partway. It's an easy ride through the stomach, but once these bad boys hit my lower GI tract, wow. They produce an amazing amount of rumbling — and an amazing quantity of intestinal gas. It's like being a one-man band!

Has anybody else noticed a problem like this? I think it may have something to do with the soy crisps that are high on the ingredient list for both of these types of bars.

If that's it – and even if its not – are there any good alternative energy bars/easy carb sources out there? My wife, child, pet and coworkers – and I – would appreciate the peace and quiet!
