Saying Good Bye to an Old Friend

About four weeks ago I came home to discover a brand new custom made Serotta CXII with Kyserium SL wheels propped up in my living room. My law enforcement clue that it was meant for me was that my name was on the top tube, a part of the custom paint job. Yup, my dear wife had given me a belated retirement present. Despite myself, she must like me.
Falling in love with the new ride was easy, shiney, smooth and built to fit with all the goodies attached. The hard part, what to do with the 1993 Trek 5200 that had served me faithfully. The Trek had endured 9 IM races and probably more than 100 races of shorter length. We only went down once together and we both still have the minor scars to prove it. We had ridden in Canada, New Zealand, a bunch of states together and shared many great memories including a few achievements. Oh parting is such sweet sorrow.
The third budding tri-head wannabe recognized the value of the Trek as a mentor and promised to treat it well. The new ride and I are off to a great start building memories and looking forward to our next adventure.
Good bye old friend, you served me well.
