Advice for a Newbie: Time between eating & working out

Hello all. I'm faced with a quandary of sorts on which I'd like your advice.
As I'm training for my first marathon, I find myself, during my workouts, either extraordinarily hungry or extremely full feeling. It is, of course, dependent on when eat. If I eat anything within 2 hours of working out, I feel nasty full when I run. If I don't eat for a few hours (3-4 hrs between eating and working out), I feel very hungry about 10 minutes into my run (and the hunger only gets more intense as I continue to run).
Meet the Browns dvd I'm sure I'm not the only one who's faced this situation. For those of you marathon or triathlon veterans: how long do you wait between eating and working out? If you have a snack before you workout (within 2 hrs), what do you eat.

Thanks for your help!
