Base Training Question
Message posted by: Stacey U.
OK, my general offseason fitness plan for improving my running is about to collide with my 1/2 IM training plan which begins tomorrow.
I'm not a strong runner, so every tri offseason, I sign up for a 1/2 marathon a month Dec, Jan, Feb. I've been doing well with a 40 min interval run, 1 hr tempo run, and 90 min slow run every week for about 8 weeks now (also, 1 swim, and 2 bikes just for fun
)
The first 4 weeks of my 1/2 IM plan is base-building, and while I need to build the base of my swim and bike back up, the base building of the run portion is less than what I am currently doing (30 min easy, 40 min easy, 60 min easy vs. the 3 runs above).
Suggestions/ opinions please! Do I "drop back" on my runs to accomodate the plan, or follow the plan for swim and bike, and continue on my own run schedule until the schedule eventually catches up to me in a few months? Like I said, I'm not a strong runner, so it seems like a shame to back off everything I've already built up, especially the intervals (there are none during the next 4 weeks of base building in my plan). I appreciate the words of wisdom!
