Race Report- Half Marathon

First of all, thank you to EVERYONE for all the awesome advice and well wishes. I woke this morning feeling good- the tightness in my chest was gone, no cough. My friends came to pick me up at 4:50am. and we were off! Lots of nervousness on the way to the race….a couple of outfit changes in the car, porta-potty stops and before I knew it the gun went off! I remembered to stay slow on the start, thats where I seem to screw up- get started too fast. Kept my slow pace and crossed mile 1 at 11:28. Slow and steady…. thats my mantra! Felt awesome until mile 7. Started getting a little warm, and took off my top layer. Along came the first big hill, made it through and finally hit mile 8. When I got to mile 9, another hill…uggghhh!! Legs were cramping a little. Took a GU and some Gatorade and felt great again. Finally reached mile 11 and then things got tough. Started to feel a little anxiety. I had never run past 11 miles. Actually I had never run a full 11 miles without SOME
walking. So far, I had run the entire thing. I was determined not to walk now!!! Only 2 miles to go!! I thought I'd NEVER see the 12 mile marker!! There it was, only 1 mile left. When I crossed that finish line I felt amazing!! My goal was to finish in 3 hours, my finishing time was 2:37. AWESOME!!!!!! I did it!!! Legs cramped for about an hour afterwards. We went and filled up on Fudruckers Hamburgers, showered and I'm ready for a big nap!! I am so proud of myself- hehee!! Another notch on the belt! haha! Thank you all again for all the support and advice along the way. Oh, by the way… my cough and tight chest are back.
I'm glad it stayed away for the race!
