Road to recovery update…

hey all I just wanted to give a quick update on my shoulder surgery rehab. Two weeks ago I was released from physical therapy and my sports doc kicked me out as well. They both said I no longer needed them. I tended to agree. I was taking everything they could throw at me in PT and asking for more. My shoulder/upper body and core feels as strong as I can remember after 8 weeks of PT. Pain is almost completely gone. I only had one small irritation of the bicep tendon left and it has since all but completely gone away. The only instructions I had been given was let pain be my guide and ramp up the swim mileage slowly.
In the past 2 weeks I have gone from mostly breast stroke and kicking and 1200m feeling like it was kicking my butt, to yesterdays 1600m which consisted of 4 100m IM's, a 300m pull set and the majority of the rest freestyle (front crawl). Pain was no longer an issue yesterday. I would say conditioning was the issue and that is a great issue to have finally! Today, I have some muscle soreness but zero pain in my shoulder. I look forward to ramping up my yardage in the coming weeks.
It's hard to believe that only a few months ago I came out of surgery and couldn't even fathom the idea of raising my hand above my head again. I think I can officially say for myself today than I am back close to 100%. Only conditioning left to get that last couple of percent back. If anyone out there has a nagging injury and is afraid of what the doc might say. I am now of the opinion that it is far better to get it taken care of. I have no daily pain in a shoulder that has had daily pain for the past few years. That is a GREAT feeling.
