ironman training – question on "the long run"

Message posted by: James T.

Hey folks. Despite reading dozens of training books and every tri mag publication for the last 2 years, I’m still unclear on this one. If I do an LSD run on a Sunday, how long (time) should I go for? I’m unclear because of the following:

1) I’ve never run a marathon, but my HM time is 1:40. My HR during a HM is ~145-150 @ 8:00 pace.

The Mummy divx

2) I ran a 32K LSD a few months back (2:45) but I took several weeks to fully recover from it.

3) If I do a Saturday brick of say 3:1 or 4:1, growing to 5:1 or even 6:1 before IMC, I don’t feel I’ll be benfitting from doing anything more than a 2 or 2:30 run only. Any longer and I’ll mess up my training. But various articvles talk about doing up to 3 hours on a Sunday. If I do such a time, what sort of distance should I expect to cover? I don’t want ot be doing junk miles or junk damage.

I’m confused. Help please.
