running vs swimming analogy

hey guys,

I started training with a track and field coach on wednesday and I had a revelation…

I’m really bad at running!

However, I love track workouts…way better than just running an hour straight…it just bores me…

I found the track workouts easier to switch up, do sprints, sets, reps, endurance, stadiums…just like in swimming (i’ve always been a swimmer) and, in swimming, we practice in a pool doing sets and reps that does it pretty good to prepare to swim a 1500m.

So my analogy is, if i train in running like in swimming, doing sets and reps, endurance, sprints…etc. is that going to be as good of a preparation to run a 5 or 10k?
