running mechanics

how to train your dragon movie part

Adulthood dvd

I have recently started training for longer distance running events (1/2 and full marathons) during the off-season. In gradually increasing my running distances, I have realized that I know very little about proper running mechanics.

A couple of questions (perhaps stupid ones, but I’ll throw them out there anyway):

1) Is it better to take longer strides (and fewer of them) or shorter, faster strides? Which is better for endurance/speed?

2) Should my posture be straight up (full foot making contact) or slightly leaning forward (running on the front part of my foot primarily)?

Any other mechanical hints?

Thanks as always!!
