acid reflux and running

Message posted by: Josh L.

Kind of gross, but I get pretty bad acid reflux when I first start running (0-6 miles or so). It doesn’t matter if I run at night or in the AM, eat right before or 3 hours before, drink water or gatorade, etc. I always get it when I run. Oddly, I never get it any other time. I can eat/drink anything and I am good to go.

Anyone else have this? What do you do? I don’t like the idea of taking a prescribed antacid before I run, but I also don’t want to degrade the lining of my esophagus every time I train. Any help would be much appreciated (as always).

Also, I have tried your other running suggestions (smaller, quicker steps and negative splits) and they have improved my endurance and pace over the past few weeks. Thanks!!
