I had planned on my season being over on 8/31/08, but a persistant friend and my wife convinced me that I would regret not doing the race. So I signed up last minute. It was a brisk 42 degrees with light rain showers as we got off the ferry. I hadn’t done any training for this race. I have pretty much limited my training the past 2 weeks to light base work and weight training. I thought it would be interesting to see how much fitness I had lost in 8 weeks. I started slow and started building some speed by mile 2. The hills started and I was surprised how well I felt. I realized at mile 6 that I had a good chanch of finishing in under 2 hours. I pushed myself all the way at that point. I finished at 2:01:41. I am still surprised how strong I felt. I missed my PR for this 1/2 marathon by 3 minutes. I was pretty pumped. It really felt good to have a strong run to end the season after having a disappointing run at Louisville. I guess once you get a good base you don
‘t have to do double sessions to maintain the base or maybe I just got lucky.

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers movies For you Michigan folks, the Great Turtle is a great way to end the season. Two miles of flat then nine miles of rollers finishing with two flat miles. Expect it to be cold, but perfect weather for a long run. Plus they have a great Halloween Party and it’s the “Somewhere in Time” weekend.
