Had a great race and just wanted to share. Felt good before the race (was worried about the shin splints that I have been battling with for 5 weeks now) and the weather was perfect. The horn sounded and I was off. As I was running, I found myself moving at a pretty good pace without being all that winded. When training, I usually will walk for a minute every 30 min or so. I passed the 30 min mark, still felt good, and so I kept going. Same happened at 1 hr and 1.5 hr. By that point, I realized that I only had another 15-20 min or so and so I just kept pushing.
I was shooting for under 2 hours (which is what I usually train at). I ended up running it in 1 hr 48 min, which is a 8:18 pace. While it may not be blazing by absolute standards, I have never run a 5K that fast. Maybe it was the adrenaline, maybe it was the feeling that I didn’t want people passing me, maybe it was just a great day…. Whatever it was, I had the race of my life. Just wanted to share.
As a side note, I saw someone who had no legs do the full marathon on a skateboard. My legs were tired after the half. Can’t imagine how their arms must have felt.
