recovery – longer after long bikes or long runs?

I was checking out Slowtwitch and caught this article – http://www.slowtwitch.com/Training/General_Training/An_Ironman_campaign_959.html

In it he makes this statement;

“Runs are easier to recover from than 7- or 8-hour bike rides. So, the long bike rides are placed further out in front of the race, the longer runs closer to the race.”

It’s the opposite for me. I recover fairly quickly from long hard bike workouts, but long runs mean a day or so of recovery. He does make the point that the long training runs mean low HR and soft terrain for minimal impact, but even still, I can go out and ride climbs on my bike for 6-7 hours and feel fine the next day, but I need a longer recovery after a 3+ hour run, even when done on soft trails at an easy pace.

I’m in my last big week of training before IM WI, with a 6 hour ride and a 3 hour run scheduled this weekend. I was planning on doing the run Friday AM, and the ride Sunday AM, but this has me thinking.

Any thoughts on his comment vs your experience?
