speed workouts (running help)

I’m committed to improving my running speed over the next 6 months. I put in a lot of miles but I can’t seem to make any improvements on speed. Does anyone have any good recommendations for speed workouts? My plan was once a week to hit the track but would welcome ideas for workouts to do once I get there. Otherwise it’ll be the usual headphones on, shlop shlop shlop for 45-60 minutes with no progress followed by overcompensating with delicious calories. Thanks for any tips.
