13.1 is such a nice distance to run!

The Houston Marathon today. I felt really good all the way past the half – was maintaining a 9:07 pace until the forbodden mile 18 – just like Dallas one month ago. I bonked again and the last 8 miles were so hard. I made it to the half in 2:05 and the 30K in 3 and then it all fell apart – legs tightened up so badly – i kept having to walk and ran a much slower pace. But the highlight of my day was seeing Daddy Bush and Barabra at mile 19. They live here and are always out there to greet the runners but i never see them – today they were right there when i passed so i went up to them and shook both of their hands – lots of SS guys around but so great.
Anyway, back to my time….i know i am older but it back in 06 i ran it in 4 so it has to be something in my training…nutrition, not enough speed work, not enough hills – don’t know. When i did the 4 i had been on Body for Life, had gotten leaner and was doing some weight work – not running everyday at all. I was only doing sprint tris also so with all the long distance training for HIM it is hard to fit it all in.
Oh well – it is what it is. I am not hurt except for my ego and pride and I am lucky to have the legs and the desire to run a marathon in the first place – so some gratitude here for sure.
I look forward to the half in Austin Feb 14 and the half in Dallas on my BIG birthday in March.
