running stride…long or short?

Message posted by: Bernie R.

This is where a coach would probably come in handy..lol.

Trying to improve my running form and times, which is my achilles heel, no pun intended (ok maybe) I have been reading articles and net webbing (is that a word?lol) quite a bit, and I find conflicting informations about proper form.

I read somewhere about fast runners using longer strides, and somewhere else about shorter strides and a forward lean. I’ve tried both, but I also hear that long strides can cause injuries, so keep your feet under your hips.

I have to say that I have recently experienced running with more of a lean and although i can’t push it too much right now (slight achilles tear), I do feel like I am not landing on my heels so much anymore, which in turn does help with the injury.

But is it faster? Or does getting faster have anything to do with any of these?

I apologize in advance for all the questions, I just can’t get faster fast enough!!

Thanks all!
