I got a dog the other day and she is wonderfully energetic border collie/pit mix. She loves running and I was thinking about training her to run with me. How does one go about training a dog to run with you, not tangle you up in the leash, and not bolt ahead, especially when herding or prey instincts kick in? Also, is there a guideline to how far you should take a dog on a run? I was going to start her off with some easy around-the-block runs and work up from there. But I also want to know where the cut-off is, too.
