2nd marathon finish

Finished my second marathon yesterday. time = 3.44.30 Right now I feel like I was in a car crash yesterday. Pretty much sore all over. My goal was between 3.30 and 3.45 so I am very happy with the results. Calves started cramping really bad the last 4 miles but I was able to keep moving and get across the finish.
My first marathon was Dayton last fall. It ended 4.07.15 so this was a great improvement in just 6 months. The credit goes mainly to creating an achievable plan and following it. In dayton I went out with the 7.15 group, way over my head!! I am battling a cartilage deficit in one knee which really prohibits high mileage training. I believe in quantity over quality.
I do have two questions for everyone.
Does everyone get this sore after a big race? I know my diet is good but maybe my training could use some tweaking. I hear of some people talking about 2 races in a few week period. I could not think about another for at least a couple of months.
Second, both of my marathons I had cramping in my legs. OK obvious answer is more water. I never cramp when training. My diet does not change. Maybe just the anxiety of the race?? What do you all think.
I know this is getting long but I just wanted to thank everyone that posts here. I am one of those readers hang out in the backgroung and don’t post a lot. I take so much good info from posts here and motivation, it is much appreciated. I am going to try and participate more to give back a bit.
