blisters on run…need help finding better socks

Message posted by: Terence H.

I am looking for recommendations on good socks to wear for blister prevention on runs. I’m generally fine on my early morning training runs (anywhere from 5-10 miles usually). But in races, I often have hot spots and occasionally blisters, particularly on the ball of my foot. I attribute this primarily to my increased sweat rate in a full sun event, at race pace, and dousing my head with water at aid stations. At the end of a race, my socks are usually pretty damp, and I think the friction from these wet socks is the problem. I use all synthetic socks and have tried several brands, the most recent being Thorlo. I also apply Body Glide on the bottom of my foot, but that doesn’t seem to last. I just bought some very thin Pearl Izumi, thinking ‘less material, less moisture accumulation’, but I have to wait to try them until my blister from this weekend’s race heals a bit more.

Does anyone have any suggestions for socks that have worked for you to combat this problem?
