carrying bike while running in transition?

Message posted by: Scott M.

Since my wife did just the swim portion of Sunday’s race, she got to watch most of it. She commented to me that racers at the front of the pack ran into transition carrying their bikes on their shoulders in T2. This was a grass transition area with a 50-60yard run in from the road. Maybe they are so much taller than me that they didn’t want to bend down so much to push their bikes, maybe their shoes are so much longer that they flip around and drag, maybe there is something else.

Why carry? Is this faster?
