baystate marathon rr

Yesterday was a great day – my two goals were to finish under 3:40 and not rupture my achilles…and I achieved both. Perfect running weather – I started with “throw-away gloves” but ended up hanging onto them in my fuel belt and was glad I did; I had them on and off throughout the entire race. It was chilly! I was holding steady around 8:00 miles for most of the race, started to slow a little around mile 20, then at 23 I entered the pain cave… and boy did it hurt. Training for my 70.3 for the summer I hadn’t really done any long runs, and with only 5 weeks between that and this marathon, I was only able to squeeze in a 15, a 20 and an 18.. it wasn’t enough. with all of the leg injuries that I’ve been dealing with this year, and after being sick with the flu all week, I was pretty stoked just to finish without injuring myself, and with a 3:38 to boot. My entire body hurts today.. bad. But it was worth it. Now time for some much needed rest. I qualified for Boston…
but next year the only marathon I will run will be after swimming 2.4 miles and biking 112. Thanks for all the support ontriers – you all rock. Especially Aleck – People that are stubborn like me are probably pretty hard to coach
this is the garmin file from my race. I was pretty steady until around mile 23, then the wheels fell off! http://connect.garmin.com/activity/53378083
